Edgar Allen Crow

Last summer we had a very different kind of visitor. A small crow fell from his nest and landed in our backyard. He was beautiful with a color so black he seemed almost blue when the sun hit him. We named him Edgar Allen Crow.
He was too young to fly, so he spent his days walking around our backyard patio. He ate cat food we gave him in a saucer. He played with sticks he found by tossing them up in the air and chasing them. At night we put him in a cage to protect him from stray cats and other animals.
His parents were there, high above in the trees to greet him every morning.
It took Edgar two weeks to learn to fly. One day he jumped up and flew to a low rock wall that surrounded our patio. A few days later he jumped up from the wall and flew into a tree. He landed just above our heads. His parents immediately joined him in the tree.
After that, our lovely visitor left us by flying away. But it was exciting while he stayed with us!
